Lisa Alexander joined the SUNY legal team as an Associate Counsel in May, 2002, providing legal support for human resources departments and offices of diversity and affirmative action.    Her areas of expertise include handling employee disciplinary arbitrations under the provisions of the collective bargaining agreements between SUNY and CSEA, UUP, PEF, NYSCOBA, as well as employee discrimination cases before the Division of Human Rights and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.  Later in her tenure with SUNY, Lisa worked primarily on labor-related matters for SUNY Upstate Medical University and SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry.  Lisa currently serves as senior managing counsel of SUNY Upstate Medical University's Office of General Counsel in Syracuse, a position she held since 2014.  In this role, Lisa serves as health care counsel and has overall responsibility for managing the legal affairs of the university.  Prior to joining SUNY, Lisa was in private practice in Albany for more than 12 years as a litigator, representing plaintiffs in medical malpractice and personal injury cases in the Supreme Courts, as a Law Guardian representing the rights of children in the Family Courts and as an Albany County Assistant Public Defender in Albany County Family Court.  Alexander earned her undergraduate degree from SUNY’s Empire State College and a juris doctorate from Albany Law School.
