StormReady Campuses

For additional information on the StormReady program, please see:

SUNY campuses should stand up and be recognized for the effort they have already made!
As of November 2018, eleven colleges and universities in NYS are officially StormReady:
Binghamton University Cornell University
SUNY Brockport SUNY Oneonta
SUNY Oswego SUNY Plattsburgh
SUNY Upstate Medical University of Rochester
Syracuse University U.S. Military Academy
SUNY Cortland
We’d like to see more campuses designated StormReady!

Many campuses have most of the requirements already in place, and becoming StormReady would require only moderate additional efforts and resources.    We have provided an annotated application form which might assist SUNY campuses with the application process:

Being part of a Weather-Ready Nation is about preparing for your community's increasing vulnerability to extreme weather and water events. Americans live in the most severe weather-prone country on Earth. You can make sure your community is StormReady®. Weather is tied to most presidentially declared disasters, and causes 500 deaths per year and nearly $15 billion in damage. The StormReady program helps arm America's communities with the communication and safety skills needed to save lives and property--before, during and after the event. StormReady helps community leaders and emergency managers strengthen local safety programs.

StormReady universities and colleges and other groups are better prepared to save lives from the onslaught of severe weather through advanced planning, education and awareness. No community is storm proof, but StormReady can help communities save lives.

StormReady helps communities respond to extreme weather - from tornadoes to hurricanes by providing emergency managers with clear-cut guidelines on how to improve their hazardous weather operations. Applying is easy. To be officially StormReady, a community must:
