SUNY Plaza Construction Updates

It was a cold winter, but Spring is here. Really! March was a transition month for our SUNY Plaza construction projects as some interior projects are coming to a close and we are gearing up for our exterior work.

Center Lobby / Entrance: The Center Lobby Renovation was an exciting project requiring extensive coordination. The result is a modern center lobby that is open and bright. We have a few punch-list items remaining, some finishes to install, and this area will be complete.

DOORS and Card Access: In this project we replaced either the doors or hardware at all of our entrances and commissioned a new card access system. We have a few punch-list items to finish and we will install canopies at the center entrance in May to complete the project. Finally we are getting some warmer weather. The long, cold winter delayed our pouring of concrete and completing the sidewalk outside of our new lobby entrance. Within the next few weeks we should be able to pour the sidewalk and  OPEN our center lobby doors. Our receptionist at the South doors will re-locate back to the center tower. For entrance and exit during business hours all staff and visitors will be encouraged to use the automatic revolving door to help maintain the building climate.

EXTERIOR SITE: The next project phase to renovate the front exterior plaza will start on April 13, 2015. The project scope not only addresses the problems with the sprinkler system and underground utilities, but also we will open up the entire site to be more welcoming with a new circular entrance, friendly and natural landscaping, and SUNY signage. The contractor will start to install construction site fencing as soon as this Friday.

The  lowering of the granite circle to the South of the Federal Building will be completed at the beginning of this project and the grass in the circle will be replaced with porous pavers. This will eliminate tripping hazards and allow more flexibility in the use of our courtyard. Once complete, the Farmers Market will relocate from inside to this area starting in early May.

GARAGE: This summer we will continue repairs on our parking garage. We estimate this work will start mid-summer and we will continue to schedule work phases for minimal disruption.

MECHANICAL: The two projects in our basement areas are complete. Our next project to replace mechanical equipment is currently in the design phase and scheduled to be completed in late fall.

OFFICE UPGRADES: There are numerous office renovation projects occurring through the Plaza and are continuing to work to upgrade the building space and systems.
