Academic Affairs at SUNY

The Office of Academic Affairs supports the statutory mission of the State University of New York:

"…to provide to the people of New York educational services of the highest quality, with the broadest possible access, fully representative of all segments of the population in a complete range of academic, professional and vocational postsecondary programs including such additional activities in pursuit of these objectives as are necessary or customary. These services and activities shall be offered through a geographically distributed comprehensive system of diverse campuses which shall have differentiated and designated missions designed to provide a comprehensive program of higher education, to meet the needs of both traditional and non-traditional students and to address local, regional and state needs and goals."

Academic Programs and Planning

This section provides support for SUNY faculty and administrators responsible for proposing to create, revise, deactivate or discontinue credit-bearing academic programs, and for other requests for the review and approval of the SUNY Provost.


 Academic Policies

Faculty and Staff Awards Programs

The Awards Programs, coordinated by Academic Affairs, aim to recognize the significant contributions and ongoing dedication of State University faculty, staff, and graduate students, as well as support their professional development. In this section, you will find information about the Chancellor's Excellence Awards, Distinguished Faculty Programs, Chancellor's Horizon Award for Faculty Research and Scholarship, Chancellor's Distinguished PhD Dissertation Award, Conversations in the Disciplines grant program, and the SUNY Shared Governance Award. 


Fellows Programs

The SUNY Academic Affairs Fellows Programs, led by Academic Affairs in partnership with other offices, provide support for the SUNY General Education Framework and other system-wide programs and initiatives.
