Employee Relations

The System Office of Employee Relations represents the University in its relations with unionized faculty and staff. We serve 29 campuses and System Administration in the development of employee relations policy and practice. Members of the office represent the University in statewide negotiations, coordinate campus involvement in the bargaining process and communicate regularly with campuses regarding their rights and responsibilities under collective bargaining agreements, and related statutes, regulations and case law. We serve as the Chancellor's representatives in hearing appeals of disciplinary and contract grievances pursuant to those agreements and coordinate the defense of improper practice charges before the Public Employment Relations Board.

We assist campuses with interpretation and implementation of the Policies of the Board of Trustees related to employment, including continuing and permanent appointment, evaluation, intellectual property, and clinical practice.

Members of the Office serve on labor-management committees on such topics as professional development, technology, employment, diversity and safety.
