SUNY Educator Preparation is an important component of SUNY’s Strategic Plan. As a major link between higher education and P-12 schools, SUNY Educator Preparation is dedicated to preparing effective teachers for urban, suburban and rural classrooms as well as serving schools in their communities. Educator Preparation is at the core of the State University of New York’s historical mission. It began as the central function of the eleven SUNY campuses founded as Normal Schools specifically to prepare teachers. SUNY has enjoyed an excellent reputation for its graduates who become teachers. Academic Affairs provides coordination and oversight for Educator Preparation program development, transfer, and other major system-wide teaching initiatives.
Through its core principles, TeachNY supports SUNY’s tradition of, and ongoing commitment to, excellence in the preparation and support of P-12 teachers and school leaders. TeachNY is a community of practitioners and scholars who take pride in and responsibility for their learning and practice, who benefit from learning from one another, and who hold themselves accountable for the principles and standards of the profession.
