The Office of Academic Health and Hospital Affairs at SUNY System Administration helps to support the mission, operations, and strategic goals of SUNY's Academic Health Centers (AHCs), the College of Optometry, and the Long Island State Veterans' Home, as well as SUNY's broader academic health and health professions portfolio, providing consultative and implementation assistance with policy, strategic and operational planning and execution.
In addition, OAHHA provides support and counsel to the SUNY Board of Trustees, its Committee on Academic Medical Centers & Hospitals, and the SUNY system and campus leaders and supports select SUNY and New York State-wide health and wellness initiatives, such as SUNY's 'Healthier NY' program.

As Senior Vice Chancellor for Health and Hospital Affairs, Val Grey works with campus and health sciences leaders to establish, lead, and support the strategic direction and operations of SUNY's four Academic Health Centers, the College of Optometry, and the Long Island State Veterans' Home. Grey provides strategic oversight, guidance, and advocacy to the SUNY academic health and health professions portfolio, including advancing student mental health and wellness initiatives, managing healthcare workforce demands, and assessing healthcare policy and public health needs across SUNY System.
Prior to joining SUNY, Grey was the Chief Executive Officer for the New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC). She was also the Executive Vice President for Policy for the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS), and has had an accomplished public service career, having worked in the Governor's Office, New York State Department of Health, New York State Education Department, New York State Comptroller’s Office, and the New York State Assembly Ways and Means Committee. Grey also led New York government affairs and compliance for AmeriChoice (part of UnitedHealth Group), a health insurance company that specialized in government programs.
Grey holds a master's degree in economics from SUNY Albany.
