Institutional Research & Data Analytics

The Office of Institutional Research and Data Analytics has broad responsibility for data collection and dissemination; providing crucial support for University priorities and initiatives; maintaining and reporting on several of the University’s major data systems: Student, Term Section, Course, Degree, and Financial Aid; and administering system-wide student satisfaction and sexual violence prevalence climate surveys.

OIRDA staff represent SUNY on a wide range of task forces and committees, including but not limited to:  Transfer Paths and Articulation Task Force, Prison in Higher Education Task Force, Digital Transformation Projects, NY Statewide Longitudinal Data System steering committee and working committees, NASH's IR Council steering committee, SHEEO Basic Needs Academy, DTP Data Governance Committee, and Military-Affiliated Students Task Force.

The information collected by Institutional Research is used to support and inform SUNY planning and processes, campus presidential evaluations, Chancellor legislative testimony, Board of Trustees reports and presentations, the development and tracking of University initiatives, and budget allocations and chargebacks. In coordination with SUNY's 64 campuses, the office also fulfills the mandatory reporting requirements of the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES IPEDS) and the New York State Education Department (NYSED).

The office routinely performs special analytical studies, prepares a countless number of slide decks for wide-ranging uses and purposes, and gives presentations on student-related data and outcomes. In addition, each year, Institutional Research responds to hundreds of ad hoc data and report requests from both SUNY and non-SUNY entities.
