SUNY System Administration Institutional Research Data Governance Framework
Institutional Research has broad responsibility for data collection and dissemination; for maintaining several of the University’s major information systems: Student, Term Section, Course, Degree, and Financial Aid; and for administering additional campus surveys on everything from continuing education and faculty to basic student charges and learning center activity.
The information collected by Institutional Research is used to support System planning and processes, including SUNY Excels, budget allocation, presidential evaluations, and campus assessment. Coordinating with campuses, the office also fulfills the mandatory reporting requirements of the National Center for Education Statistics and the State Department of Education.
The office performs special analytical studies at the request of the Chancellor, the Provost, and other System offices as well as provides key support to University initiatives. In addition, each year, Institutional Research responds to hundreds of ad hoc data and report requests from both SUNY and non-SUNY entities.
