Office of Library and Information Services
Mission
The Office of Library and Information Services (OLIS) strives to support excellence and innovation in libraries and affordable learning programs by building collaborative learning networks, developing efficient shared services, growing and sharing campus staff expertise, and enhancing system-wide best practices.
Overview
OLIS provides support for the following areas:
- SUNY Library Services: SLS connects strategic directions from the entire SUNY system and works to assist with implementation and administration of library technology initiatives at the campus level including the shared library services platform.
- Shared Electronic Resources: OLIS offers shared subscriptions to databases spanning the academic disciplines, allowing for significantly greater library resource access than what would be available to individual libraries.
- SUNY Open Repositories: OLIS offers two open access repository environments to SUNY campuses. The SUNY Open Access Repository (SOAR) makes available scholarly and creative works of SUNY faculty and students. The SUNY Digital Repository (SDR) has a strong focus on local campus historical and special collections as well as housing Open Educational Resources (OER).
- SUNY OER Services (SOS): SOS works directly with SUNY campuses and faculty to provide assistance and knowledge to support the adoption of Open Educational Resources (OER) and sustained use of OER as drivers of faculty choice and student success. This includes offering a ready-to-adopt course catalog, facilitating the seamless integration of openly-licensed content into learning management systems, the remixing of openly-licensed content from various sources, the offline (print) production of learning materials, as well as the services and resources of our partners.
