Affirmative Action Statement

SUNY’s Affirmative Action program strives to create respect and regard for difference and equitable treatment in all aspects of workplace diversity. SUNY is committed to the incorporation of proactive recruitment and retention practices as an integral part of the work of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The Affirmative Action Officer proactively reviews its policies and practices to assure that decisions with respect to every dimension of employment are made without regard to age, color of skin, disability, gender expression and identity, genetic predisposition, marital status, national origin, race, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran’s status, status as a victim of domestic violence, and all other protected groups and classes under Federal and State Laws and executive orders.

Our office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion provides support to campus administrators, affirmative action officers, faculty, students, and Title IX coordinators on all issues concerning affirmative action and Title IX. ODEI’s Affirmative Action Officer serves as a resource to SUNY campuses, faculty and students with respect to complaint procedures for addressing unlawful discrimination. 

Working with CDO’s and other campus officers, the System Affirmative Action ensures compliance with federal and state reporting and supports faculty diversity goals. Creating campus understanding of key issues such as gender equity to assure equal opportunity for all qualified candidates for appointment and promotion. ODEI collaborates closely with our campuses to promote diversity-related instruction, webinars and conferences by marshalling our resources and outreach to gauge the needs and interests of affirmative action officers throughout SUNY.
