The State University of New York Office of General Counsel provides legal advice and guidance to the Board of Trustees, the Chancellor and employees of the SUNY System Administration, and the Presidents and employees of SUNY colleges.

Mission

The mission of the Office of General Counsel is to provide comprehensive legal services to support one of the United States' leading state systems of higher education, the State University of New York. We protect and defend the University's legal interests in accordance with the laws of the United States and the State of New York and provide legal advice to the Board of Trustees, System Administration, the State University's campuses, and other components of SUNY.  We track legal developments, issue legal guidance to campus professionals and provide training on understanding and complying with legal requirements.
