Establish SUNY-wide community of practice for creating global learning opportunities in the classroom and on campus by providing venues for system leaders in global learning, diversity and sustainability to meet and plan together – to CONSPIRE to INSPIRE students.
Toolkits and resources for faculty and staff
Compile, develop and disseminate resources to enhance undergraduate academic advising about global learning opportunities, including recommendations on incorporating in first year experience.
Promote campus adoption of the Global Learning for All micro-credentials.
Provide tools, resources and training to faculty from the SUNY level (e.g., turnkey toolkits; a robust webpage hosted by Global Affairs that serves as a clearinghouse for information, resources and best practices) to facilitate engagement in global learning.
Provide training and information to faculty to include the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in their teaching, emphasizing the global dimensions of sustainability, including information about the University Global Coalition and benefits to campuses for joining as signatories.
Finalize handbook for faculty led study abroad programs with an emphasis on faculty preparation and development of global awareness learning outcomes (moving beyond subject area SLOs).
Create a Global Learning Gen Ed requirement.
Ensure equity and access to global learning, including education abroad, through careful review of policies, practices and procedures, to ensure that they remain affordable and accessible to SUNY students and foster innovation in programming.
Develop Glossary of Terms specific to GLFA-related data and reporting needs modeled after the existing SUNY IR Glossary of Terms and made accessible online, to establish consistent terminology usage.
Develop new Global Learning dashboards folder in BI to provide key reports as determined by the GLFA community, including but not limited to: study abroad activity, COIL, international enrollment.
Select or develop reporting mechanism to compile SDG Framework data that provides incentive and an opportunity for SUNY institutions to engage with.
Identify or develop assessment rubrics and best practices that campuses can adopt as they foster global activities and promote global content in the curriculum.
Develop tools for assessing international student satisfaction and success that can be used system wide.
Make a high-level declaration of the importance of Global Learning to a SUNY education highlighting the ways that diversity, equity and inclusion; sustainability; and global learning support overlapping goals.
Affirm the importance of making global learning opportunities available equitably to all students, particularly through online and virtual tools such as COIL.
Adopt the Framework for a More Sustainable SUNY (included in this document) that emphasizes the Sustainable Development Goals and new draft targets across the SUNY enterprise that align education, research, engagement and operations within the SDG framework.
Establish SUNY service corps to generate and promote intercultural service learning opportunities and secure external funding to ensure equitable participation by students of all backgrounds.
Collect and showcase campus best practices from the Framework for a More Sustainable SUNY, for adoption by other SUNY campuses and as means of publicly demonstrating SUNY’s contributions to sustainability.
Incentivizing through Public Recognition
Establish a SUNY-wide Chancellor's Award intentionally recognizing intercultural engagements and accomplishments.
Establish system-level recognition for faculty exemplifying teaching and service that integrates global learning with diversity and/or sustainability (e.g., a Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Global Learning that calls especially for examples of global learning focused on diversity and/or sustainability).
