The SUNY Transfer Task Force has been established to be assured that transfer opportunities across SUNY - particularly vertical transfer between associate and baccalaureate programs - are more fully realized. The Transfer Task Force will provide regular reports and progress updates to the Chancellor and the Board of Trustees, culminating with a final report in Spring 2024 that will include recommendations for a plan to implement system-wide improvements.
The task force is designed to be representative of the entire SUNY System and consists of members from all regions and sectors. To promote meaningful and immediate progress and to facilitate the development of specific, detailed recommendations, the task force consists of mission focused working groups that represent major areas of transfer service and curriculum development. Members are transfer-focused faculty and professionals from across the state, drawing on the collective expertise of the entire SUNY System. The task force began its work in June 2023, with working groups holding regularly scheduled meetings and providing consistent reports to the Steering Committee.
The Transfer Task Force Steering Committee will set goals and establish benchmarks for the overall revitalization project and will provide direction to, and receive input from, working groups. The steering committee will compile data and proposals put forward by the working groups and develop an overall plan to guide the larger revitalization project.
A Presidential Advisory Group works with the SUNY leadership and Steering Committee to help provide input into system-wide needs and helps facilitate communication and engagement with the work of the SUNY Transfer Task Force.
Advisement and Transfer Services Working Group members are focused on assessing current transfer practices and needs System-wide through student, faculty, and staff feedback and surveying. Based on a thorough review of practices, models, and structures the group will propose a series of recommendations to inform System-wide advising practices, initiatives, or models.
Financial Aid, Business, and Student Accounts Working Group members are reviewing the current policies and regulations related to billing and aid, and make specific proposals aimed at simplifying the process for transfer students.
Enrollment Management, Recruitment, and Marketing Working Group members are focused on progressive admissions and recruitment policies that support student movement from associate to baccalaureate study at the earliest possible juncture. In addition, current practices, and policies that impact students at the point of transfer, such as credit evaluation, processing time and registration will be evaluated.
Curriculum and Transfer Pathways Working Group members are assessing the national landscape and prevailing transfer and guided pathways models. The group will also consider lessons learned from SUNY's current Transfer Path structure with the goal of making policy and procedural improvements that can be incorporated into a sustainable future model.
Student Records and Student Data Working Group members are reviewing current practices for the sharing and transmission of student transfer data. The group will assess the way centrally managed, stored, and disseminated data may be made more transparent, readily available, and usable at the campus level.
