SUNY Partnerships in Türkiye

The State University of New York (SUNY) began a system-to-system partnership with the Turkish Council of Higher Education (YÖK) in 2000, developing relationships between SUNY institutions and Turkish universities. The star program of the partnership is an undergraduate dual diploma program in multiple academic fields which has enrolled more than 3,100 Turkish students, including more than 2,600 graduates thus far. The video below is just a small sample of what our alumni are up to now and how they feel about their experiences participating in the program.

Dual Diploma Programs

To graduate from the dual diploma programs established between the SUNY universities and their Turkish partners, students spend half of their education at a campus of the State University of New York and half at a Turkish university. Each program leads to the awarding of a single degree simultaneously by the two respective partner institutions. Although degree recipients are awarded two diplomas, one from each institution, both diplomas refer to the degree in the same manner and no student can receive the degree or either of the diplomas without satisfying the academic requirements of both institutions. Among those requirements are the General Education requirements of The State University of New York Board of Trustees.

The dual diploma program received the Andrew Heiskell Award for Innovation in International Education from the Institute of International Education in 2007, under the category of international exchange partnerships.‌

Office in Türkiye

In 2004, SUNY established an office in Türkiye, located at YÖK, to coordinate the programs and work with students and the consular sections of the U.S. Embassy and Consulate on the visa application process. The office is now focused on promoting the programs and SUNY, attending a variety of fairs and making presentations in high schools and to other audiences throughout the country. In addition, the office serves as liaison between SUNY campuses and their partners and assists in the development of new programs. The office is currently located in Istanbul (Halaskargazi Mah. Halaskargazi Cad. Lotus Walk No 38-66E, 215 Şişli, Istanbul, Türkiye)
